High Meadow Cottages

Self Catering Cottages in the Peak District

Local Info

In close proximity is beautiful Carsington Water with its excellent water sports and exhibition centre. Here you can try your hand at sailing, wind surfing, fishing, bird watching, or simply browsing around the exhibition centre and enjoying a meal in the restaurant.

If you really enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside then hire a bike at High Meadow or put on your walking shoes to explore the many wonderful walkways or cycle tracks around the locality.

When you fancy a day "in town" then just 5 miles away is Ashbourne, "The Gateway to the Peak" with glorious Dovedale just beyond. Wander around Ashbourne's many antique shops, explore the beautiful majestic 12th century church and walk along Church Street, one of the finest streets of medieval architecture in the country, or if you prefer, you can "shop till you drop" in the numerous high quality designer fashion shops and boutiques, spend a few hours on the golf course or visit the new leisure centre and swimming pool.

All this walking, sightseeing and exercise can be quite tiring so pop into one of the many restaurants or wine bars for a meal or just enjoy a nice cup of coffee in the Ashbourne Gingerbread shop.

The National Trust properties of Chatsworth, Hardwick Hall, Calke Abbey and Kedleston Hall are also all within easy reach or for a complete change spend a day at Alton Towers (12 miles)

Also 5 miles away is Wirksworth with its award winning conservation and heritage centre and just a little further is Bakewell, another extremely interesting and beautiful town famous with it's traditional "Bakewell Pudding" shop.

The entire Derwent Valley has also now recently become a World Heritage Area and the historic towns of Matlock, Matlock Bath, Cromford, Milford and Belper are all within ten miles of High Meadow.
